Well, the Terps had their long-awaited mock scrimmage today. Jordan Steffy threw a touchdown. Chris Turner threw a pick. Both (and Josh Portis) got looks with the first and second teams.

So here it is —- today’s quarterback nugget from Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen, who again emphasized consistency as a major determining factor:

“Right now, what I’d like to see out of our quarterbacks is a guy who can manage the game and make the plays that are available to him,” Friedgen said. “Really, if he could just do that, I’d be happy right now  without manufacturing [stuff]. If we could do that right now, I think we’d be OK.”

He went on to re-iterate Maryland could play more than one quarterback, which seems like a safer and safer bet by the day. If that is the case, it means Portis will play in some capacity and either Turner or Steffy will probably start.

And so the College Park Quarterback Chronicles head into Day 11 tomorrow. Ralph has emphasized making a decision soon. But as said here at some point in the last day or so, here’s expecting an answer some time Monday.

Really, though, this issue is probably going to hang with this team for much of the season. So while fans get frustrated with the uncertainty and I certainly get bored with writing about this every day, the quarterbacks will continue to be an issue even after a decision is made.
