Looks like the usual suspects lead the way in the first AP poll of the year.

Georgia. Ohio State. Southern California. Oklahoma. Florida.

Naturally, there’s no ACC team to be found.

Clemson is the first program from the Land of 8-4 Teams, checking in at No. 9. Virginia Tech is 17th, and Wake Forest is 23rd.

In the also receiving votes portion of the festivities, Florida State is 31st, Boston College is tied for 33rd, North Carolina is tied for 37th and Virginia is tied for 43rd. Not quite sure why the Cavaliers register, but maybe someone just re-used their ballot from the end of last season.

Only one team with a losing record in 2007 cracked the top 25: Pittsburgh. Here’s betting the Panthers don’t live up to that billing.

No sign of Maryland or Navy in the rankings. And for now, that’s probably appropriate.

Maryland fans might be curious to learn California —- which comes to College Park on Sept. 13 —- is 28th.

More coming a bit later in the day.
