A media guide depth chart goes out of date pretty fast.

As in, three weeks from now, it will be completely meaningless.

But fans love to parse this sort of stuff. And that’s it is worth listing the order of several positions on Maryland’s preseason depth chart.

WR-X: Isaiah Williams, Torrey Smith, LaQuan Williams, Adrian Cannon

RG: Phil Costa OR Jack Griffin, Matt Harraka, Joe Faiella

QB: Chris Turner, Jordan Steffy, Josh Portis, Jamarr Robinson

TB: Da’Rel Scott OR Morgan Green, Rashad Henry OR Dan Bonato

NT: Olugbemi Otulaja OR Dion Armstrong, Travis Ivey

SLB: Moise Fokou OR Adrian Moten, Dominique Herald, Aaron Ball, Femi Akinwande

WLB: Dave Philistin OR Chase Bullock, Demetrius Hartsfield, Hakeem Sule

CB: Nolan Carroll, Richard Taylor, Trenton Hughes

FS: Terrell Skinner OR Antwine Perez, Austin Walker

CB: Kevin Barnes, Anthony Wiseman, Michael Carter, Brandon Jackson-Mills

The biggest surprise? Probably the Will linebacker battle between Philistin and Bullock. It’d be awful strange to have a guy touted as a preseason Nagurski Trophy candidate on the cover of your media guide and have him on the bench when the season opens. Here’s thinking Philistin indeed wins that position, even if it is different from the middle linebacker he manned last year, by the time camp concludes.

Otherwise, everything seems in order —- at least for now, anyway.
