President Obama, by his own admission, “was a mediocre student” until he got to college — and can’t recall getting as much homework as his daughters do these days.

“I goofed off way too much,” he said in an interview that aired Tuesday on NBC’s “Today” show. “Malia and Sasha are so far ahead of me, basically in all respects — they’re just better people than I was, and they’re doing wonderfully. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

“I will say, that at least at the school they’re at, they’re getting a lot more homework than I did when I was that age,” he continued. “I mean, they seem to be working deep into the night … I didn’t study that hard until the night before an exam.”

The answer was in response to a question about whether Mr. Obama had ever failed a test, as NBC’s Savannah Guthrie said she had heard Mr. Obama had gotten in some “hot water at home” for publicly revealing that Malia had gotten a “C” on a science test.

So, has he ever failed a test?

“Oh, yes,” he replied. “Absolutely.”
