Ok, so maybe it’s not a Super Bowl parade, but the Washington Kastles will be recognized today for their World TeamTennis championship, with D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty granting them keys to the city.
The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. in front of the Wilson Building, followed by a party at the Occidental restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue. Team owner Mark Ein will be there along with most of the team including Leander Paes, Rennae Stubbs, Scott Oudsema and Olga Puchkova. Serena Williams will not be in attendance.
The always understated Kastles coach Murphy Jensen wrote a letter to fans Wednesday urging them to come out, promising free t-shirts.
“It’s been less than a month since we won and I am still blown away by what happened this past season. It was the best tennis experience of my life and I can’t wait to see you [Thursday] and bring back so many incredible memories from this summer!!!! The team and I still talk almost daily. We really bonded around the experience and we are so excited to all be together again for the first time since we won the trophy!!!!!”
