Muriel Bowser, D.C. mayor, defends city’s homeless plan

In her annual State of the District address, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on Tuesday said residents shouldn't be deterred by critics of her plan to close the homeless shelter at D.C. General Hospital and end homelessness in the city, saying opponents are speaking from a "place of fear."

D.C.’s Ward 3 shelters enough homeless, residents say

One of the D.C.'s wealthiest jurisdictions, Ward 3, is known for its tony residences, luxurious embassies and upscale restaurants -- including one small neighborhood that encompasses about 50 percent of the ward's services for homeless families.
