What's happening in Afghanistan is a foreshadowing. It is not the worst thing the Democrats are doing; it is just something else they won't own. What they really won't own is the way they're ruining America.

We will be great again

To China, who is behind the takeover of Afghanistan, and our allies, I say this: Do not believe that the cowardly withdrawal from Afghanistan by our present leadership sums up the character of America. The wonderful work of our troops for 20 years to free a country, educate people, fix roads, build hospitals and keep people safe at the cost of their lives-- that is America.

The saying "Live free or die" seems to be relevant today. How long can we live our lives on hold like this? More people are murdered in DC and Chicago every week than COVID-19 kills -- but no one shuts down these cities to stop the murders.

As American military retreated from Afghanistan, it took less than 10 days for the Taliban to take it over. The U.S. occupied that country for 20 years, trying to teach the Afghans self-reliance. We spent over $2 trillion and lost thousands of soldiers to death and injury. Billions of other dollars in planes, helicopters, guns, drones and addditional killing machines were left for the Taliban to use against our military and our country.

Worst administration in history

President Biden has now solidified his position as the worst president in the history of the country. In less than eight short months his leftist administration has racked up a perfect record of failure after failure.

Say goodbye to herd immunity

Before the vaccines, we had a natural pandemic whose progress for the first six to 12 months was fairly predictable ("Biden team to roll out vaccine booster plan 'very shortly,'" Web, Aug. 17). Now we have a pandemic combined with vaccines, which is completely unpredictable and destabilizing. There is no precedent for this, and that is why we are seeing non-seasonal outbreaks.

I am worried about the 10,000 Americans still in Afghanistan who could be murdered or used as hostages to blackmail the Biden administration. I am worried about the Afghan people; many will be tortured and murdered, especially the women.

Get the vaccine already

Yesterday it was reported on "The Today Show" (8/18,NBC) that 42 states had submitted details on their COVID-19 "breakthrough cases." To date: Of the 168 million fully vaccinated Americans, there have been 248,943 breakthrough cases, 7,608 hospitalizations and 1,587 deaths. These are very impressive results for any vaccine.

One bad decision after another

The current leadership from the White House makes a taxpayer such as myself want to ask: Why are you destabilizing this country? Why are your policies so intent on undermining certain segments of society to the point of rendering them useless ("Biden's disarray on Afghan withdrawal raises doubts about his presidency," Web, Aug. 16)?

The proportion of Americans doing time behind bars is falling, and that is something seemingly worthy of applause.

Let there be no mistake: President Joe Biden and his cohorts' contempt for all things Donald Trump has cost us dearly. From the debacle in Afghanistan, to allowing thousands of illegal migrants into our country, to the COVID-19 virus spreading like a deadly cancer, his obsession with distancing his policies from Trump's has been ruinous.

Don’t let Taliban attack U.S.

In a May letter to thed editor I wrote that the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan by Sept. 11, 2021, would likely "allow the Taliban to reconquer Afghanistan and establish terrorist organizations devoted to attacking the United States." In the past 20 years we have lost nearly 2,400 Americans and spent over $2 trillion in Afghanistan.
