[UPDATED AT 6:25 P.M.]

Hope nobody bought tickets for tonight’s game just so they could see Stephen Strasburg throw out the ceremonial first pitch, cause you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Strasburg is not in town yet and won’t be here today. The Nats are hoping to get him here in Friday, at which point he’ll make all the rounds and draw lots of attention. Until then, you’ll have to wait.

As for the plan with Strasburg moving forward, it doesn’t sound like there’s a real urgency to have him pitch in the majors this season. Mike Rizzo said it’s “highly unlikely” that will happen, though I suppose he wouldn’t completely rule it out. Strasburg will begin his professional career in Viera, getting his arm back in shape after a 2 1/2 month layoff and working with Nats roving pitching coordinator Spin Williams.

Whether he appears in the majors or not in September, Strasburg will likely pitch in the Florida Instructional League and then the Arizona Fall League.
