The tarp has been on the field here at Nationals Park since about 3 p.m., but just about everyone expects there to be baseball tonight. The system that’s blowing through the region is moving through faster than expected, and team officials believe tonight’s game against the Brewers will be played, perhaps starting somewhere in the 8:30 p.m. range. While you’re waiting for John Lannan to throw that first pitch, here are some interesting tidbits from Baseball America’s annual “Best Tools” survey. Managers at every level of organized ball are polled by the magazine to name which players they believe are the best at various aspects of the game. Several Nats are cited in the survey… BEST TOOLS: NATIONAL LEAGUE 3B Ryan Zimmerman: Best Defensive Third Baseman in the NL. OF Nyjer Morgan: Tied as Best Baserunner in the NL with Juan Pierre and 3rd-Fastest Baserunner in the NL. BEST TOOLS: Class AAA 2B Seth Bynum: Best Defensive Second Baseman in the International League. SS Ian Desmond: Best Infield Arm in the International League. RHP J.D. Martin: Best Control in the International League (Martin has since been called up). BEST TOOLS: Class AA SS Ian Desmond: Best Infield Arm in the Eastern League. BEST TOOLS: Class A SS Danny Espinosa: Best Defensive Shortstop and Best Infield Arm in the Carolina League. RHP Brad Meyers: Best Control in the Carolina League. C Derek Norris: Best Batting Prospect and Best Power Prospect in the South Atlantic League.
