The Nationals have made the first trade of the Winter Meetings, acquiring right-handed reliever Brian Bruney from the Yankees for a player to be named later. Bruney throws hard, but walks his fair share (153 in 221 1/3 major-league innings). Still, he’s a live arm in a bullpen that doesn’t have many hard throwers right now. Expect him to join the stable of late-inning options.
The Nats should be announcing this deal to the media shortly, and Jim Riggleman is scheduled to talk at 2 p.m. I’ll have more later from whoever decides to open their mouth first.
