Nationals scouting director Dana Brown, one of the organization’s longest-tenured employees, is leaving to join the Blue Jays as a top front-office official.

Brown has accepted an offer from Toronto to serve as a special assistant to newly appointed GM Alex Anthopoulos, major league sources confirmed this morning, reuinting two former members of the Montreal Expos’ front office. A formal announcement is expected later today.

Brown was first named scouting director of the Expos in 2002 and had retained that title for eight seasons, surviving the franchise’s relocation to Washington and two GM changes. Among the players drafted during his watch were Ryan Zimmerman, John Lannan, Ross Detwiler, Jordan Zimmermann, Chad Cordero and Stephen Strasburg.

The Nats have not named Brown’s successor yet, but assistant scouting director Kris Kline is a candidate for promotion.
