The Nationals have taken a 2-0 lead on the Braves, and the young guns have been front and center in making that possible.

Ian Desmond has hit another homer, his fourth in 20 big league games, and this one was a towering shot to left off Jair Jurrjens. Desmond also has made two highlight-reel plays at shortstop, though he did drop another ball trying to turn a double play.

Ross Detwiler, meanwhile, has tossed five scoreless innings so far, allowing only a bunt single to Nate McLouth to lead off the bottom of the first. He’s issued four walks, but only that one infield hit to date. Pretty impressive for a guy who was supposed to be shut down after his last outing.

Injury news: Willie Harris had to leave the game with a strained right oblique muscle. Appeared to hurt himself swinging in the top of the fifth. I suppose you could say both that Harris is day-to-day and out for the season, seeing as how there’s only one day left in the season.
