We’re back at Citi Field for this afternoon’s Nats-Mets game, and the main topic of conversation — really, the only topic of conversation — before the game was today’s lineup, which puts Ian Desmond in right field and has the infielder playing the outfield for the first time since high school. Interim manager Jim Riggleman said he might try Desmond out there a couple times to get at-bats for everyone in his glut of middle infielders—the move opens up second base for Pete Orr to start.

The move was definitely a surprise, but it’s not out of character for Riggleman, who seems to be of the mindset that players can play, no matter the position, and shouldn’t be pigeonholed. Here’s the rest of the Nats’ lineup, as well as the Mets’ starting nine:

Orr 2B
