Hate to say this, but my records for Maryland football get a little less complete in the years before 1998.

So I can’t definitively say Da’Rel Scott‘s 197-yard outing (on 26 carries) was the best ever for a Terrapin in his first start.

But it definitely was the most productive outing in a season-opener for a Terp. Ever.

The old record? Charlie Wysocki‘s 177-yard outburst against Villanova in the 1980 opener.

So that’s a pretty good debut for Scott, as well as the Maryland rushing game. The Terps amassed 271 yards on the ground, their best outing since Sept. 25, 2004, at Duke —- a span of 45 games. It was also the 11th-best rushing game in coach Ralph Friedgen‘s tenure.
