Greetings and salutations on this Thursday morning. Time to see what’s cooking with Maryland football (and maybe something else, too).

My contribution to today’s dead tree edition is a look at how Maryland has all but abandoned seriously recruiting Florida —- so much so that only two Florida natives are left on the roster, down from nine just two seasons ago. It’s a decision influenced by economic and recruiting realities. It isn’t necessarily bad, or good. It just is, and was worth delving into a bit.

The Washington Post’s Steve Yanda picked up on the most interesting things Ralph Friedgen said after practice yesterday, notably his praise for quarterback Josh Portis.

So does the Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Barker, in a more abbreviated form.

Eric Detwiler of the Diamondback offers a take on the Da’Rel Scott-Morgan Green backfield tandem.

The Official Dot Com Diva ranks the coaches of the ACC. Frank Beamer checks in at No. 2, Ralph Friedgen at No. 8 and Al Groh at No. 10. This endeavor is sort of like picking the Big East standings in football; you know who will be No. 1 (and, here, No. 2), and you know who will be last. Everything else is pretty much a scrum and highly subject to change.

And a loyal reader from the Old Dominion points out Beamer has opened Virginia Tech’s scrimmages this month.
