Alex Ovechkin has been suspended for two games by the NHL for his hit on Tim Gleason Monday night. Both Ovechkin and Bruce Boudreau said they didn’t think he deserved to be suspended.
Ovechkin will have to sit out Thursday against Florida and at Philadelphia on Saturday. He is also out $98,844.16 because the suspension is without pay. There appears to be no provision for the injury, so he “serves” the next two games whether he is unable to play or not.

The Caps also sent out an Ovechkin quote: “I regret that this has happened. I’m glad that Tim wasn’t injured because I never ever want to see anyone get hurt. I am disappointed to miss these games and I can’t wait to get back on the ice next week to help my team.”
