Alex Ovechkin is on the ice this morning with his teammates for practice. He, Mike Knuble and Jay Beagle are all wearing orange jerseys, typically reserved for non-contact guys. Ovechkin and Knuble make sense, but this could mean Beagle is dealing with an injury (or those other two guys needed a center).
In other news, a team offical said John Carlson will play for Team USA at the forthcoming IIHF U-20 World Championship in Regina/Saskatoon. Carlson will not attend the team’s camp in Grand Forks from Dec. 17-19, but he’ll be on the team (the 29-man preliminary roster was announced today, but Carlson was likely a lock as long as the Caps gave him permission).

The Russian preliminary roster is also out, and both Dmitry Orlov and Dmitri Kugryshev are on it. Marcus Johansson has already been named to the Swedish roster.
