The Caps just finished up the morning skate here in Arlington. Semyon Varlamov will start in net for the Caps against the Florida Panthers at the Phone Booth tonight. Bruce Boudreau also confirmed that Alexander Semin will play after missing seven games with a wrist injury.
There were several other injury updates today from Boudreau as well. Alex Ovechkin is expected to be ready to play Monday when he returns from his suspension. Boudreau said he thinks Tom Poti will play Saturday in Philadelphia and Shaone Morrisonn could be back sometime next week. Morrisonn skated today after taking two days off and Boudreau said he feels a lot better.

Quintin Laing skated again today, only this time with his teammates instead of before practice. Laing will have his jaw unwired Tuesday, and Boudreau said he thinks it will take him two weeks to gain the weight back that he’s lost and get into game shape (here’s guessing he doesn’t end up needing two weeks, because coming back early is just something Quintin Laing would do).
The Panthers won last night 6-5 in a shootout (the skills competition, not the adjective) at home against Colorado. This is the second time in a month that the Panthers have had to play back-to-back games in South Florida and Washington — guessing there won’t be a fruit basket sent to the league’s office for this.
Keith Ballard’s baseball swing off Tomas Vokoun’s head made plenty of news the past few days. That was bad enough, but then he collided with Colorado goalie (and former teammate) Craig Anderson in the overtime period last night and Anderson had to leave the game. Let’s just say the guy has had a rough week.
