The Washington Capitals have a well-earned reputation as being one of the most accessible teams in pro sports. Guys from the Caps are always doing radio and TV interviews all over both NHL countries.

Well, Eric Fehr now has his own weekly segment on CKMW, or 1570-AM, back in his hometown of Winkler, Manitoba. The segment, which is called From Capital Hill with Eric Fehr, runs Thursdays at 4:15 p.m. on “your sports station in Southern Manitoba.”

“I was just at a golf tournament back home and someone from the radio station came up to me and said, ‘A lot of people are asking us what is going on with your career and how you are playing,’ “ Fehr said. “They wanted to know if I wanted to put a little show together to let the fans know what is going on.”

Fehr calls into the station on Wednesday’s to pre-record about 3 1/2 minutes for them to run Thursdays. Today will be the fourth segment so far this season. He typically talks about one subject in particular (today’s topic is what he does on gamedays) and also answers emails from listeners (

There isn’t a way to listen to to segments on the website, but Fehr said the station is working on creating an online archive so people can hear a little more about the daily life of an NHL player.
