A state lawmaker from Mississippi is set to announce Thursday whether he will challenge Sen. Thad Cochran in a Republican primary next year.
State Sen. Chris McDaniel has scheduled a noon announcement at the Ellisville Courthouse in the Mississippi town of the same name.
His team blasted out a cryptic email that says he will “end speculation over primary challenge,” an indication that he will likely take on Mr. Cochran.
He faces an uphill battle, considering the incumbent has held the Senate seat since the late 1970s.
