Well, I guess this is the end of Silent Gil. The NBA announced about an hour ago that they have fined Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards $25,000 apiece for the guard’s refusal to speak to the media this preseason.

Arenas spoke begrudgingly on media day on Sept. 28, and since has been silent other than to say “I’m not talking. See you guys media day next year.” That’s been his line a few times. He said last week before the preseason game against Dallas, that he wasn’t talking “until the league makes me.” So I guess now he’s being made.

Should be interesting to hear his take on how things are progressing with the Wizards this preseason, and himself individually.

The reason behind the silence, according to Arenas’ earlier this preseason, was that he was done entertaining and wanted to just focus on playing basketball.

Antawn Jamison, when asked about Arenas’ silence and new serious mood during training camp, said, “I’m fine with it as long as it doesn’t take away from his game,” but added that “Gil being loose and talking is who Gil is.”

Wizard and Arenas fans for the most part have missed Arenas’ voice, but now that should come to an end.

The Wizards in a few minutes will tip off against the Detroit Pistons in Grand Rapids. I’m at home for this preseason game, but will be meeting up with the Wizards in Cleveland tomorrow night, where they’ll take on the Cavaliers. It’ll be interesting to see what the guard has to say to reporters tonight.
