According to a Tweet by a Redskins web site writer, Vinny Cerrato has resigned as vice president of football operations.

This should make for an interesting Thursday at Redskin Park and undoubtedly an interesting Friday morning radio show should Vinny choose to host “Inside The Red Zone.”

This is a stunner.

Most observers (myself included) thought that Cerrato would survive this debacle of a season even though the personnel mistakes have been many.

Cerrato has been Dan Snyder’s main guy for all but one year of Snyder’s 10-year tenure as Redskins owner.

Cerrato’s departure means anybody is in play, including Mike Holmgren. The former Seattle coach spent this week in Cleveland being wooed by Browns owner Randy Lerner.

More later.
