Rasmussen has come out with new polling information showing that former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is as competitive against President Barack Obama as current GOP presidential front runner former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney:

“In potential Election 2012 matchups, it’s President Obama 46% and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney 45%. However, if former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is the Republican nominee, the president holds an eight point lead, 49% to 41%. Rick Santorum trails the president by two points, 46% to 44%. Ron Paul trails by three, 45% to 42%.”

“We now have empirical data that proves conservatives do not need to settle for a moderate like Mitt Romney to defeat Barack Obama. This poll comes on the back of other polls released in recent days that show Rick Santorum is also the best candidate to stop Romney,” said Hogan Gidley, Santorum’s spokesman in a statement.

Santorum’s campaign fundraising is also seeing it’s best numbers ever. Though relatively small compared to other campaigns, Sen. Santorum raised $920,428 during the last quarter.
