Some are speculating that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is so incensed with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney over the attack ads against him from a pro Mitt Romney Super PAC in Iowa, that he will throw political grenades at the Massachusetts Republican tonight. However, Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond told me tonight that prediction cannot be further from the truth.

“I’m glad we’re with ABC tonight, because it reminds me of the Drake debate in Iowa. The polling (for Gingrich) was very high. Newt Gingrich was in the middle podium position. And everyone was like, ‘Oh geez, everyone is gunning at Gingrich. He’s not going to be able to handle it.,’” Hammond said.

“Everyone was like, ‘He’s not going to handle it. He’s going to have this big moment. He’s going to have this big tantrum on stage and  he went out there and he was this cheerful happy warrior and he plugged right along. Every expectation that has put up against Newt in this campaign, he’s been able to overcome. Whether it’s been campaign’s organization, his temper or temperment, or his ability to compete and raise money. Every single time a challenge has been thrown out for him he’s handled it with grace and statesmanship,” he Hammond added.
