Are skyrocketing gasoline prices finding their way to the nation’s capitol? At an Exxon gas station on the corner of Virginia Avenue and Rockcreek Parkway NW, the price for a gallon of regular is now $5.29.

According to this fill up station is the most expensive listed for the district and the current average price for regular in Washington is $3.89. The current national average for a gallon of regular is $3.80.

California is facing higher gas prices and according to the L.A. Times, California’s average gas price hit a record of “$4.614 for a gallon of regular, up 12.8 cents overnight.” Some independent filling stations are being forced to shut down, because owners cannot get gas from their distributors or simply cannot afford to buy it themselves.
