Socialism benefits elite groups while the rank and file suffer at the hands of the elite, their enablers and supporters. The current campaign to lift the "burden" of student-loan debt and place it squarely on the backs of the American taxpayer is a perfect and horrid example.

Not many years in living memory have been as bleak as 2020, but Americans are doing their level best to dispel the gloom during the season of giving. The coronavirus pandemic that dampened Thanksgiving celebrations from coast to coast only sharpened enthusiasm for the ensuing shopping spree of Black Friday. The unfolding holiday period demonstrates there is little market for misery during the most spirit-filled time of the year.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: If only Trump were a ‘progressive’

It seems to me that in addition to the accomplishments for which President Trump has received credit (despite the screaming from the "progressives" and their lap dogs in the mainstream media), two huge achievements have been overlooked or buried. First, it appears that President Trump invented a new way to wage war without any American bloodshed: economic pressure that overwhelms an adversary (see Iran). Second, Mr. Trump's policies have saved our hospitals and their associates through economic aid. After all, have you heard of any hospital going bankrupt because it was required to treat COVID-19 cases to the exclusion of revenue-producing elective surgeries?

EDITORIAL: What Americans should be doing now for the future

With Thanksgiving now passed, Americans have entered into their yearly no-man's-land until the mid- to late-December holidays. Psychologically we are in a similar state of limbo, as we wait for both a new presidential administration (as of this writing not a done deal) and COVID-19 vaccines to flow into the American bloodstream. All this waiting, especially with the onerous lockdowns taking place in many parts of the country, is maddening.

Most Americans will come to realize that after they boldly elected African-American President Obama (twice), he did virtually nothing to improve race relations or the lives of most African-Americans. Rather, we will come to accept that President Trump did more for Black Americans — with a soaring (pre-COVID-19) economy, very low unemployment rates, an increase in real household income, an improvement in rates of homeownership and assistance to opportunity zones and historically Black colleges. This despite the media's unsubstantiated accusations of racism, constant criticism and refusal to report the president's accomplishments.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Shutdowns hurt more than help

The lockdowns are not working. In fact, they are hurting the economy more than they are preventing the spread of the virus. The lockdowns only delay the spread of the virus; they don't actually prevent it. The same number of people will eventually get infected. We don't know that breakthrough vaccines are safe, and there is evidence that people can get infected even after antibodies are present.

There are many, including some of President Trump's supporters, who think investigating and litigating voting fraud is a waste of time and money because even if all fraudulent votes, voters and abettors were identified and prosecuted, the outcome wouldn't change. In other words, it is the result, not the preservation of election integrity, that is important to these people.

EDITORIAL: Voices opposing government COVID-19 restrictions must be heard

One thing the left does much better than the right — other than shut down city blocks for days at time — is agitate for their needs. They grab the megaphone, collar the media outlets and raise Cain. Consequently, they find the odds that their grievances are acted upon increased. It's a nice little cycle, or racket, which is why it has been in the liberal playbook forever.
