With cornerback Richard Taylor out for a while with a knee injury and safety Terrell Skinner still down with a high ankle sprain, Maryland is suddenly in need of defensive backs.

And it appears a couple of possible redshirts could be stepping in.

Freshman Cameron Chism seems like a good bet to move into Maryland’s cornerback rotation, and those plans to redshirt sophomore safety Dominique Herald have disappeared almost as quickly as they were created.

“I told Cameron Chism that we’re probably not going to redshirt him; he needs to be ready to go,” coach Ralph Friedgen said. “Probably Herald will help us on special teams and I’m looking for him to come in and play in the dime situation where he can also be a pass rusher.”

Chism, if and when he plays, would join Davin Meggett, Kenny Tate and Matt Furstenburg as true freshman who made it into a game this season.
