Al Groh provided the ACC teleconference’s unintentional comedy.

Bobby Bowden delivered the line that was meant to be funny.

The Florida State coach was introduced as a ranked team after his Seminoles —- still down five starters because of suspensions —- pummeled Chattanooga last week.

So a man whose team regularly resided in the top five for more than a decade had this to say in reply to the teleconference moderator.

“Don’t tell them who we played,” Bowden playfully pleaded. “I’m surprised we cracked the top 25. I didn’t vote for us. We’re not ready for that.”

Yes, the Seminoles have obliterated a pair of bad Southern Conference teams to open the season (please note Appalachian State, Elon, Wofford and Georgia Southern were nowhere to be seen in Tallahassee). But they looked really good in the process, and a lot of the flotsam and jetsam on the fringe of the rankings have either feasted on bad teams as well or are clearly flawed teams.

It’ll be tough to tell if that’s the case about Florida State, which has one of the week’s most fascinating games on Saturday when Wake Forest swings into town for the teams’ 27th meeting —- and the first with both as ranked teams.

Maybe the Seminoles aren’t ready to be ranked. But it’s clear we’re about to find out.
