OK, a couple quick hits as I ponder just how ridiculous it was that I was sitting in a Chick-Fil-A earlier tonight trying to get online with a backup laptop from the paper…

* Senior Obi Egekeze will start on Saturday at kicker, answering the biggest question of a relatively quiet week.

* Da’Rel Scott practiced noncontact the last two days and remains questionable. Coach Ralph Friedgen said all the usual things a coach would say about how he would use the tailback, but let’s be serious: If there’s a way to minimize his carries, Maryland will do that.

* Friedgen said defensive line coach Dave Sollazzo has had “the green light” to use true freshman A.J. Francis in each of the last three weeks. So it would come as no surprise if Francis does play Saturday, especially with defensive end Mack Frost out.

* Speaking of redshirts, Friedgen mentioned safety Dominique Herald would be seen on the kickoff coverage unit this week, the same place he excelled last year as a true freshman. Herald, who was suspended for the opener and didn’t play the last two weeks, had hoped to redshirt this year. “Your request was denied,” Friedgen said in reference to Herald’s preferred plan.
