There was something a bit different at practice today, and it had nothing to do with personnel.

It had everything to do with little artist’s renditions of the Testudo statues found throughout camp, snout pointing upward, affixed to the helmets of Maryland‘s players.


No one seemed to be in a mood to share just what they stand for. Word in published reports last month said there would be some for academic achievement and some for on-field performance. Sure enough, there were yellow and red backgrounds on the stickers.

So fans look like they’ll get their way on this sort of addition. But what precisely qualifies for helmet sticker treatment will remain a mystery for now.
