Jeremy Navarre is playing 65 to 70 plays a game. And at defensive tackle, that simply isn’t a tenable situation.

But help is on the way in the form of Travis Ivey for perhaps 10-15 plays.

The junior should be back this week from his broken foot. That will allow Dean Muhtadi to start at end with Jared Harrell backing him up. And with Ivey around, maybe Navarre’s play count dips to something more manageable.

“It’s just a question of how fast he’ll be ready,” coach Ralph Friedgen said. “Yesterday he went out and did a little bit. Today we’ll get him involved in some team. We have to be careful not to do too much too soon with him and re-fracture his foot. Hopefully he can come in and spell Jeremy.”

At the very least, Ivey gives Maryland a couple lines to work with. And that’s better than they had last week when Mack Frost sat out.
