The Caps authored quite a beatdown against the Flyers in the rookie game this afternoon, rolling to a 7-0 victory in front of a lot of fans here at K-Plex.

Standouts were aplenty for the home team. Travis Morin had two goals and an assist, Mathieu Perreault had a beautiful goal and a fantastic assist, Josh Godfrey looked great quarterbacking the power play, John Carlson moved the puck, hit people, got in a scrap and just looked much improved in general from this summer, Viktor Dovgan and Oskar Osala both enjoyed the physical nature of the contest (and both also got into fights) and all three goaltenders were pretty sharp though not heavily tested.

Please remember that the Caps have one of the more highly-ranked farm systems in the NHL and the Flyers are pretty thin when it comes to the kids. Neither Claude Giroux nor James VanRiemsdyk was around for the Flyers, and they don’t have a lot in the cupboard beyond them. Still, it was an impressive and dominating performance. Philly showed up armed with plenty of guys who like the rough stuff, and the Caps did not shy away.

More on the camp as a whole later (especially since I didn’t have time to post anything about yesterday’s scrimmage).

And just think, tomorrow the real fun begins.
