The Caps knotted this baby back up at two with a pair of second-period tallies. The first came from Michael Nylander on a rebound of Alex Ovechkin‘s shot from the left point at the end of a long 5-on-3. Ovechkin made it 2-2 later in the period by converting a penalty shot against Carolina netminder Daniel Manzato. Chris Bourque made a nice little play to help spring Ovechkin on the rush that led to the penalty shot.

Other thoughts:

*Neuvirth settled in nicely during the second period. He finished his night with 24 saves on 26 shots — can’t complain about that.

*Mike Green is still ridiculous. He blasted past a pair of guys (just like Ovechkin did) and drew a penalty. They tripped him up and he still put a backhander off the outside of the post. He also made two or three guys look silly with quick stickhandling moves along the wall. If someone wants to put a wager on No. 52 having a sophomore slump, feel free to take said person’s money. And if you were going to make that bet, you were warned.

*Things got more than a little chippy in the late stages of the period. There was a scrum that produced four roughing infractions, and then both Josh Godfrey and Grant McNeil dropped the gloves for the Caps.
