The Senate Judiciary Committee will kick off its immigration hearings this year with testimony from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano next week.

Ms. Napolitano, who has overseen the administration’s immigration efforts for the last four years, is currently traveling through the Southwest, where she says the border is finally secure and has urged lawmakers to turn their attention to legalizing illegal immigrants and overhauling the broader immigration system.

Both the House and Senate are holding hearings ahead of what’s expected to be a bruising legislative fight. The House Judiciary Committee held its first hearings Tuesday, with testimony from advocates and former government experts, but nobody from the Obama administration.
