Sen. John McCain went onto the convention floor this morning to practice a slice of tonight’s acceptance speech.

Cindy McCain and Sens. Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman accompanied the Republican presidential nominee to the podium.

A reporter asked Mr. McCain whether he was comfortable at the podium. The candidate joked, “You can’t be comfortable with Lindsey [nearby].”

They arrived at a stage that’s been rearranged. The large rectangle shape has been replaced by a long aisle, with the podium placed at about what would be center ice in the Xcel Energy Center, home of the Minnesota Wild.

Mr. McCain’s mother, Roberta McCain, was at the afternoon practice session as well. She reached up to the stage to greet Mr. Graham and Mr. Lieberman.

Country singer Trace Adkins stood alongside the back right of the stage. After Mr. McCain’s walk-through, Mr. Adkins practiced the national anthem.
