Creepy Archives from Dark Horse Comics

Creepy Archives, hard cover, Dark Horse Comics ($49.95)

I often rant about how fantastic the EC Comics of the 1950s were. After EC ceased publication in 1955, most of their artists went freelance, or worked for MAD magazine. Then in the 1960s Jim Warren started publishing magazines like Creepy and Eerie, and recruited old EC artists as well as new young artists, to put the EC mark on his new horror comics. This volume features work by Frank Frazetta, Al Williamson, Joe Orlando, and Alex Toth. Later volumes will feature Neal Adams, Berni Wrightson, and Richard Corben, as well as more of favorites from the EC days.

Spider-man Loves Mary Jane, Season 2, No. 1 from Marvel Publishing

Spider-man Loves Mary Jane, Season 2, No. 1, Marvel ($2.99)

Terry Moore, creator of Strangers in Paradise, Echo, takes over this “season”. I really can’t think of a better choice to write this book. Look for this to be charming, witty, and feature great dialogue and character development. Might actually turn out to be my favorite Spidey title….
