Following the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill chaos, Black Lives Matter activist John Sullivan was arrested for incitement, having reportedly stated — among other things — "We will pull that f___ Trump down." This guy is not a Trump supporter, nor (obviously) were those surrounding him. They were opportunists seeking to blend in with the crowd whose complaints were of election fraud.

EDITORIAL: Progressive calls for ‘de-platforming’ undermine free speech, divide country

Some people may find President Joe Biden's repeated calls for "unity" a welcome respite from the division of the Trump years. Maybe so, but the evolving discussion around allowing the government to step in and censor the free press should be as alarming as anything the former president did.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Group favoritism exists

In "Biden's equity politics juggernaut threatens America" (Web, Feb. 5) Richard Levine rightly and effectively skewers the racial equity doctrine, but he's wrong on one point. Mr. Levine writes that "equity is applied to factions; equality is applied to individuals." I wish this were true, but in fact equality under the law has been applied to factions.

Through a political-science examination of the evidence in "Dismantling Trump's election fraud claims" (Web, Feb. 8) Professors Grimmer and Hall do a great job of debunking the allegations of voter fraud in the last election. However, they omit one factor: Many of the votes counted were illegal.

We were driving home from Jerusalem one warm summer day in the 1950s. It was only a leisurely four-hour drive home, heading up the road first to Haifa, then along the coast through Tyre and Sidon. Mom, Dad and baby sister Sally were in the front seat and my older brother and two younger sisters were in the back. We were enjoying the roads in our borrowed Chevy, but it wasn't nearly as fun as riding in the back of Dad's jeep around Beirut.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Northam putting seniors at risk

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's COVID-19 vaccination priorities are cruelly exposing our state's most vulnerable citizens, those age 65 and over, to an early death. Look at the science, which Mr. Northam, a medical doctor, fails to follow. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that those age 65 and over are 8 to 10 times more likely to die of COVID-19 than any other age group. Yet the governor's vaccination plan fails to adequately prioritize this most vulnerable age group.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Church had enough cash to help

Last week I read a disturbing story in The Washington Times: "'Economic lifeline': Catholic dioceses took millions in taxpayer aid while sitting on own cash" (Web, Feb. 4). According to the article, "scores of Catholic dioceses across the U.S. received aid through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) while sitting on well over $10 billion in cash overall, the nation's nearly 200 dioceses received at least $3 billion."

EDITORIAL: Democrats mutilate the Constitution to ban Trump

The Senate meets Tuesday to try Mr. Trump an unprecedented second time following impeachment Jan. 13 in the House of Representatives. "Incitement of insurrection" is the charge that Democrats bring this time, in hopes of rendering the former president ineligible for future public office.

The in-your-face actions of 'Big Joe' Biden selecting Nicholas McQuaid to oversee Hunter Biden's legal issues seems a tad bit suspect. First the media told us that there was nothing to the Bidens' entanglement with Russia, Ukraine and China. Now the same media is ignoring the obvious fix in the appointment of Mr. McQuaid, Hunter Biden's former business partner. But this is in line with letting Peter Strzok continue to be involved with the Russia spoof after he boasted about not letting Trump become president. Yes, the swamp is very, very deep.

On Jan. 27 President Biden said the following about climate change: "It's about coming to the moment to deal with this maximum threat that's now facing us — climate change — with a greater sense of urgency. In my view, we've already waited too long to deal with this climate crisis and we can't wait any longer. We see it with our own eyes, we feel it, we know it in our bones, and it's time to act." Is Biden correct about climate change being "the maximum threat" to our nation?

"Prayer breakfast gives Biden fresh chance to call for unity" (web, Feb. 4) identifies President Biden as "the nation's second Catholic president." I would argue that Mr. Biden is more accurately identified as a Catholic-apostate president because he has renounced church teachings.
