Chris Baker, Jason Peters each fined for their roles in Redskins, Eagles brawl

Though Baker avoided being disciplined by the league for his hit on Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles on Sunday, he was not able to dodge punishment altogether. The league announced Friday that the Redskins' nose tackle, and the Eagles' left tackle, were each fined for their actions in the scuffle that followed the hit.

Redskins’ Chris Baker avoids discipline for hit on Eagles quarterback Nick Foles

Following a review of the play, Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive director of football operations and its chief disciplinarian, ruled that Foles could have made a tackle during an interception return by the Redskins in the fourth quarter of the teams' game on Sunday and thus was not afforded the protections typically granted to a quarterback.

Redskins finding ways to get ball to playmakers Garcon, Jackson, Roberts

The overall philosophy of Jay Gruden's passing attack is simple: the coach wants the quarterback to get the ball in his playmakers' hands as quickly as possible. Kirk Cousins showed Sunday that a combination of trust, a quick release and a good sense of timing can make that West Coast derivation successful.

Andre Burakovsky getting long look at center in Capitals training camp

Such responsibilities may be a bit overwhelming for Burakovsky, but on Sunday, in the Capitals' preseason opener, he seemed more than adept at handling them. He scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Buffalo at Verizon Center, burying a wrister off a one-timer from Jason Chimera from the right faceoff circle 13:14 into the first period.

Despite the best wishes of his team's athletic training staff, Hall couldn't stay in the locker room after he was hurt Sunday. He needed to see first-hand how the Redskins would fare at the end of their game against Philadelphia — at one point even pulling his replacement, rookie Bashaud Breeland, aside for additional coaching.

Mike Green unsure of future with Capitals, but ready to get comfortable again

General manager Brian MacLellan, appointed to the post in May when the contract of George McPhee wasn't renewed, made no promises that Green would last in Washington. When asked if he could see Green remaining with the team past the upcoming season, MacLellan said he "would assume so," because Green's "a good player.
