Just a day after a Quinnipiac University poll showed Barack Obama slightly ahead in Florida, a new Rasmussen Reports poll says John McCain actually holds a significant 6 percentage point lead.
And even more surprising, when voters are told McCain supports offshore drilling, his lead goes up to 11 percentage points — shattering conventional wisdom that offshore drilling is a killer issue in the Sunshine State.
The Rasmussen poll found most voters believe drilling would, in fact, reduce gas prices — an indication that the debate has shifted to where voters are willing to try anything to bring more supplies online. That could turn into a major issue in a campaign where McCain is calling for a gas tax holiday and for more drilling, and Obama is opposed to both.
