Sen. Claire McCaskill, Missouri Democrat, said GOP House Speaker John A. Boehner needs to demonstrate “courage” and stop being afraid that far-right extremists will strip him of the speakership.

“Speakers need to do what’s best for the country sometimes, and he’s not and he knows it. I really think Boehner needs to get some courage,” she said Thursday morning on MSNBC.

Mrs. McCaskill called for Republican moderates to “muscle up” and show that the “irrational right” does not make up the whole GOP congressional caucus.

Her message to those on the right calling for members of Congress to give up their employer contribution for Obamacare: “Give yours up today — you don’t need an amendment to do that,” she said.
