Former GOP Rep. Joe Scarborough said Monday that Sen. Ted Cruz is trying to save face after calling on his colleagues to take a no-holds-barred — and tactically dumb — approach to defunding Obamacare.

Mr. Scarborough said that Mr. Cruz, Texas Republican, is “acting like an idiot” because his plan to strip funding for the 2010 Affordable Care Act is not realistic because the Democrat-controlled Senate will never go along with the plan and President Obama has vowed to veto any spending bills that do not include funding for his signature domestic achievement.

“He is just desperate not to look like the biggest fool in Washington, D.C.,” Mr. Scarborough said of Mr. Cruz on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” which the Florida Republican co-hosts.

Mr. Scarborough said the American public does not like Obamacare and the Republican party should be in the driver’s seat as long as they don’t overplay their hand in the ongoing spending battle by shutting down the federal government.
