\ (Two amusing asides before moving on. First, a friend told me he was driving past Charlotte on I-85 in early 2004. One of the billboards he saw proclaimed “This is Cavalier Country.” Apparently, a pair of Tire Bowl championships extended Lord Groh of Hooville’s dominion a bit.\

\ Also, there was a picture a Maryland fan printed out in our office a few years back. It showed the Cavalier mascot holding a tire with the caption “Al Groh’s Legacy.” He’s working to change that this year, near-losses against Middle Tennessee and Connecticut notwithstanding).\

\ Anyway, who remembers the last time the Hoos won seven straight in a season? That was back in 1990, when the Moore-to-Moore connection ignited a 7-0 start spoiled when Georgia Tech (whose offensive coordinator was Ralph Friedgen) upset the then-No. 1 Cavaliers at Scott Stadium.\

\ For the record, Virginia has never won eight straight in a season. Trips to Maryland and N.C. State stand in the way of this year’s team changing that stat.\
