\ Brent Johnson also confirmed that he will start in net. The Caps play three games in three and a half days to start the season, so Johnnie was going to play one of them for sure. He’s got much better career numbers in Atlanta than he does on the Island, where the Caps will be Monday.\

\ There are 10 credentialed media from Sweden here for Backstrom’s NHL debut, and the game is being televised back home. Atlanta will also have a young Swede, 22-year-old defensemen Tobias Enstrom, making his debut. He was an eighth-round pick in the 2003 draft, but he is a small (he’s listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds) offensive defenseman — exactly the type of player who probably did not have an NHL future before the rule changes but could thrive now. I talked to a couple of the reporters from Sweden during the skate, and they said Enstrom has a ton of skill but can be a little nonchalant with the puck at times.\

\ I’ll check back later before the game starts. The Commish, Gary Bettman, is in town and will be holding court with the media later this afternoon.\
