The co-founder of Japanese animation giant Studio Ghibli and one of its two most important auteurs has died. Isao Takahata was 82.

Kate Brown to defy Trump if Oregon National Guard ordered to U.S.-Mexico border

The Democratic governor of Oregon said Wednesday that she will refuse to send National Guard forces to guard the border with Mexico. Gov. Kate Brown even trolled President Trump, tagging his "RealDonaldTrump" handle in the tweets in which she said her state's units will not participate in his border-security plan.

California grants driver’s licenses to 1 million illegal immigrants

California has granted driver's licenses to more than a million illegal immigrants, the state reported Wednesday. The California Department of Motor Vehicles said that, since a law signed by Gov. Jerry Brown took effect at the start of 2015, it had granted 1,001,000 licenses to foreign citizens who can prove they reside in California.

Juli Briskman, the woman who won her 15 minutes of fame last fall by flipping the bird at President Trump's motorcade, is now suing the company that fired her. Ms. Briskman filed her case in state court Wednesday accusing Herndon-based Akima of breaking a Virginia law that bars companies from firing someone because of fear of unlawful government retaliation.
